Have Lunch With Your Dog In Front Of The Statue of Liberty
GET PATRIOTIC AT LIBERTY STATE PARK
If you’re traveling to or from the Big Apple, make a pit stop in New Jersey and visit the scenic Liberty State Park. There are ferries to Liberty Island that leave from New York and New Jersey, but the bad news is Liberty Island doesn’t allow dogs. *sad faaace* ∴ The absolute closest place on land you can get to the Statue of Liberty with your four legged friend, is Liberty State Park.
I decided we were going to need some snackage for our park date, so Beanie and I stopped at my new favorite bagel joint ever, Wonder Bagels. ♥ They have 5 locations, so we stopped at the one at 517 Jersey Avenue. I got Bean on his leash, and just kinda walked right in without asking if that was allowed. Yay, they didn’t kick us out! I got bagels, scallion cream cheese, water, OJ, and they gave me an empty cream cheese container so the little man would have a water bowl once we got to the park. I wisshhhh I could tell you how good the bagels and cream cheese were, you just have to trust me and go there. Like now.
NEW JERSEY PARK DATE
Bagels in hand, we drove maybe 10 mins to the park. There is free parking, and a little welcome center looking thing, then it’s just a short walk until Lady Liberty comes into view.
I took about 800 pictures of Bean in front of the Statue of Liberty, then we found a little bench to inhale the Wonder Bagels.
It wasn’t crowded by any means, but quite a few families came up to the railing to snap their photo with the famous statue. Everyone was SO diverse. It was really cool. Made me appreciate being there in that moment, in front of one of the most recognizable things in the world.
Liberty State Park also has a pretty great view of Ellis Island. Unfortunately Ellis Island doesn’t allow dogs either, but at least we saw it. Another point of interest is a giant bronze sculpture by Nathan Rapoport called “Liberation”. The memorial portrays an American Soldier carrying a Holocaust survivor out of a Nazi concentration camp.
Liberty State Park is definitely worth an hour+ of your time. It’s beautiful, memorable, and the views are pretty unstoppable. So get goin’! And stay tuned for more Paws Buzz Go Pit Stops!
