Bark At The Park! Tigers’ First Ever Dog Night Was A Home Run
Last night, the Detroit Tigers hosted their first ever Bark at the Park night at Comerica Park.. and It. Was. Awesome. 😃 Originally when tickets went on sale, the human ticket/dog ticket package was $40. It soon became the hottest ticket in town, and people on Craigslist were asking as much as $150.
The event was very safe and well organized. Rules posted online stated you had to bring your dog’s vaccination records, a signed waiver, and it said retractable leashes wouldn’t be allowed. Upon arrival, a check-in table was set up, and veterinarians were waiting to check everyone’s vaccination records. I was really impressed by that. Better safe than sorry. Then once you got through the gate, dog owners were given a little goodie bag with a bone shaped dog bowl mat thing, and a cool Bark at the Park 2016 bandana.
Bean and I climbed the stairs and found our seats. There were two sections filleddddd with dogs. I had imagined maybe 30.. 50 dog tickets were sold? Nope, try hundreds. I’d say at least 300 dogs. But despite the crazy amount of dogs in one area, numerous people kept saying out loud that they couldn’t believe how well-behaved all the dogs were.
BARK AT THE PARK DONE RIGHT
Outside of the designated dog sections, they had a party deck set up with plenty of shade, picnic tables, a doggie “relief area”, tons of water to drink, and even kiddie pools.
The other cool part, was there were human bathrooms right outside our section, and since the dog sections were blocked off, it was a very limited amount of people, and there were NO lines. And I could bring Bean in the bathroom with me and nobody cared. There was also a beer/food stand blocked into our section too, and the lines were very short. A short wait for beer + petting dogs while in line = YAY.
The Tigers went on to beat the Seattle Mariners 4-2!! Every time something exciting happened people would clap, and alllll the dogs would bark. A vendor would yell HOT DOGSSSSSS, and the dogs would bark. It was so cute, and everyone was laughing the whole time.
The other reallyyyy cool part about Bark at the Park, is you got to run the bases with your dog after the game!! 😜 It was kind of a hike down around the stadium and down this big long ramp, especially when your doggie is already wiped out, but that all melts away once you step on the field. It was beautiful, and the lights are SO bright. I will never get mad at someone dropping a fly ball again.
Beanie creepin’ in the dugout…
I really couldn’t have asked for anything more out of this event. Every Tigers employee I interacted with was SO nice, courteous, and seemed genuinely excited to have all the dogs, and dog parents at the park. I didn’t see one single dog scuffle happen, and everyone seemed so happy, so I have high hopes that the Tigers will do this again next year. And when they do, Beanie and I will be there with bells on. 😉 ⚾️
